Homeopathy and Depression
In today's world there is an increasing number of stressors which can impact one's health, including nutritional, environmental and lifestyle factors. However, the physical results of these stresses are often more apparent than the mental and emotional, which can easily be overlooked or ignored until they have developed into a more serious problem.
When a person feels depressed, something needs attention. Too much stress can make it hard to cope, and important feelings may be suppressed or turned inside. A major loss or grief requires time and emotional support for real recovery—and even a buildup of minor stresses (disappointments, setbacks, trouble in relationships, or work-related problems) can contribute to depression. Dietary deficiencies, allergies and sensitivities, hormonal imbalances, or biochemical conditions may also be involved.
Although prescription drugs can ameliorate some of the symptoms of depression, they have some shortcomings. Antidepressants do not cure you. In many cases, you're expected to use them for life and risk side effects like insomnia, headaches, and reduced sex drive. And some people taking antidepressants develop dependency and experience withdrawal if they stop taking them.
How can Homeopathy Help?
An often overlooked connection between mind and body is the way in which even mild mental ill-health can have an adverse effect on a physical level. American researchers found that mild depression can quicken the deaths of patients with heart problems: the incidence of abnormal heartbeat was three times higher in depressed patients. There is also evidence that stress may raise cholesterol levels, potentially increasing the risk of heart disease. Homeopathy is a holistic therapy which aims to help both the mind and body by treating the person, not the disease.
The guidance of an experienced homeopath is often invaluable in order to choose a remedy that fits the situation best. Homeopathic remedies can provide a fast, lasting treatment for depression by matching your personality, state of mind and individual symptoms. For example, the remedy Ignatia often uplifts people who become depressed after the death of a loved one.
Instead of suppressing symptoms, homeopathic remedies deliver minuscule amounts of natural substances to boost your body's healing powers, so there are none of the disadvantages encountered when using prescription drugs.

As effective and SAFER than Prozac
A recent study at Jundiai Medical School in Brazil has shown the efficacy of homeopathic medicines in the treatment of moderate to severe depression. The study, involving 91 outpatients, showed that individually selected homeopathic remedies were as effective and were safer than Fluorxetin (Prozac).
